Carmageddon Returns: New Installment Promises a Return to Brutal Racing Roots
The notorious vehicular combat series Carmageddon is roaring back onto the scene with a new installment, poised to reignite controversy and deliver uncompromising action to racing game fans. Publisher THQ Nordic announced the project, entrusting development to Italian studio 34BigThings, creators of the high-speed futuristic racer Redout.
Carmageddon first shocked gamers in the 1990s with its over-the-top violence and disregard for conventional racing conventions. The series allowed – and often encouraged – players to wreak havoc on opponents and pedestrians alike, sparking widespread debate and even bans in some territories. Now, a new generation of players, alongside veterans of the original, will have a chance to experience the mayhem. The upcoming title aims to recapture the spirit of the original while benefiting from a seasoned development team and the backing of a major publisher.
This revival comes after a previous attempt to resurrect the franchise in 2015 with Carmageddon: Reincarnation, a Kickstarter-funded project that, while appreciated by fans, failed to fully restore the series’ former prominence. THQ Nordic’s investment and 34BigThings’ proven ability to deliver fast-paced, dynamic racing experiences suggest a stronger potential for success this time around.
Details remain scarce, with only a brief teaser currently available. A full reveal, including the first gameplay trailer, is scheduled for the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted event on December 4, 2025. Fans will be watching closely to see if the new Carmageddon embraces its scandalous past and delivers on the promise of becoming the most brutal racing game of the year.
