Van Dijk Calls for Collective Responsibility After Forest Defeat
Virgil van dijk addressed the recent disappointing home loss to Nottingham Forest, emphasizing the need for a team-wide response and accepting his own share of the blame. He stated the current situation is “definitely a problem” and acknowledged his responsibility as a key player, but stressed that accountability extends to the entire squad – starters and those on the bench alike.
“Football is a team game, we all do it together and we need everyone at their best,” van Dijk explained. He reiterated the importance of taking ownership of mistakes and committing to increased effort, despite acknowledging that previous calls for advancement haven’t yet yielded results. “We have to keep going.”
The defender described the mood in the dressing room as understandably disappointed, particularly with the ease with which goals were conceded in the second half. He urged players to self-reflect and take responsibility for their individual performances.
Drawing on his long tenure with the club, van Dijk expressed confidence in Liverpool‘s ability to overcome this challenging period. “We have been through ups and downs already and we will bounce back,” he said, while cautioning that recovery won’t be immediate. “These things don’t happen overnight, you have to work and do it together. It’s not a one-man show.”
Van Dijk also addressed the frustration of the supporters, acknowledging their right to express their disappointment, even through leaving matches early. He affirmed his belief in the unwavering loyalty of the liverpool fanbase, stating, ”I’m pretty sure that they will always stick with us regardless,” and predicting their continued support once the team turns its form around. He concluded with a resolute commitment to persevere: “I’m not a quitter, no-one should be, so I will keep going until the end.”
