Colombia Responds to FAA Security Alert Over Venezuela

Colombia’s Civil Aeronautics Responds to FAA Warning Regarding Venezuelan ⁣Airspace

Colombia’s Civil⁣ Aeronautics authority has taken steps to ensure flight⁤ safety ⁤following ⁣a Notice⁤ to ‍Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the U.S.Federal Aviation⁣ Administration (FAA). The FAA warning, valid ‌from November 21st, 2024, to February ⁣19th, 2026, alerts pilots⁣ to⁤ a “perhaps risky situation” within the Maiquetía flight data region – the airspace controlled by venezuela, encompassing parts of the ⁤southern and ⁢eastern Caribbean – due to “the worsening security situation and increased⁣ military activity” in or around Venezuelan territory, specifically around Maiquetía ⁣International ⁢Airport.

In response, the Civil Aeronautics ‌of Colombia has requested ⁤that ‍all commercial air operators utilizing this⁤ airspace ⁣submit ⁣detailed information. This includes a extensive internal analysis of the advisory’s impact on current routes and operations, a description of operational and commercial measures being⁤ implemented (including⁢ option routes and enhanced security protocols), and formal confirmation of adherence to the FAA’s required 72-hour advance notice period for ⁤any itinerary adjustments.

The agency is also instructing commercial air operators to:

* ‍ ‌Request specific details from the FAA,at least⁢ 72 hours in advance,regarding information⁣ potentially affecting planned flights,via FAAWATCH@FAA.GOV.
* Instantly report any observed safety incidents ‍or risks within the affected airspace to both⁤ the Civil Aeronautics and the FAA thru official ‌channels.

These actions ‌are being taken to ensure strict compliance with international aeronautical ‌regulations and prioritize operational safety.

The FAA’s warning⁤ comes amidst heightened tensions in the⁣ region. ⁣Venezuelan President Nicolás‍ Maduro responded to⁤ the U.S. advisory, stating that ⁤perceived threats would not ⁣deter him, and called for peace. The U.S. has recently deployed⁢ the USS Gerald Ford aircraft carrier ⁢and other military ⁢assets⁢ to the region, citing a focus on curbing drug trafficking, a move that ⁢has prompted concerns in Venezuela‌ regarding potential regime change efforts.
