Former Bayern Munich Defender Jerome Boateng Faces Backlash During Barcelona Internship
Jerome Boateng, the former German national player, is completing a ten-day internship with FC Barcelona, a move facilitated by his relationship with coach Hansi Flick, with whom he won numerous titles at FC Bayern. However, the visit has been met with significant criticism online, stemming from his 2024 guilty verdict for assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
Boateng accompanied Flick’s coaching team, and Barcelona posted a video on thursday showing Boateng greeting both Flick and Robert Lewandowski, a former Bayern teammate. The post quickly drew negative reactions on Instagram, with users questioning the club’s decision to host Boateng. Comments included, “What the hell is he doing? Guys, do some research on him,” and “This guy doesn’t deserve a stage after everything he’s done.”
This isn’t the first time Boateng’s planned internship has faced opposition. A similar arrangement with FC Bayern was canceled after public criticism from fans following his conviction. Despite initial agreement with trainers Vincent Kompany and the club, the project was ultimately scrapped due to the backlash.
