Detroit Towing Company Accused of Predatory Practices
DETROIT, MI – A Detroit towing company, allegedly operated by Mike Goch, is facing accusations from former competitors of illegally soliciting tows from accident scenes. The allegations, brought to light by WXYZ’s Ross Jones, center around claims that the company actively sought out business at crashes before being officially dispatched by authorities.
The accusations raise concerns about potential exploitation of drivers during vulnerable moments and the fairness of the local towing industry. If substantiated, the practices could violate city ordinances and potentially state law, impacting both accident victims and legitimate towing services. An investigation is ongoing, with authorities attempting to verify whether Goch received a citation for the alleged behavior.
According to a Detroit Police Department spokesperson, a ticket was sent to Goch via certified mail, but a search of 36th district Court records did not reveal an active case under his name.
“The only person or people telling you this are disgruntled employees who work for our competitors,” Goch stated when confronted with the allegations by WXYZ.
Though, Jones countered, “That’s not true. The companies aren’t disgruntled former employees, they had their vehicle in an accident. The police aren’t disgruntled former employees, they’re here to try to enforce the law.they’re saying you’re soliciting tows.”
Goch vehemently denied the claims, repeatedly stating, “It’s not true, we’re not soliciting tows. It’s simply not true.”
The investigation remains active. Anyone with details related to this case is encouraged to contact Ross Jones at ross.jones@wxyz.com or (248) 827-9466.
