Hollidaysburg Lawyer Sentenced for Fraudulent Court Orders
HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. – A Hollidaysburg lawyer has been sentenced in federal court for forging a judge’s signature on fake court orders in a civil case, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania announced today. The scheme defrauded a client out of the expectation of a favorable ruling and monetary sanctions.
The case highlights the vulnerability of individuals navigating the legal system and underscores the serious consequences for attorneys who abuse their position of trust. The lawyer’s actions not only jeopardized his client’s case but also undermined the integrity of the judicial process.
According to court documents, attorney David cohen was representing a victim in a civil lawsuit against a healthcare company in 2022 when he falsely claimed to have filed the case in the United States District Court. Cohen then fabricated court orders, purportedly issued by the Chief United States District Judge, which falsely indicated a favorable outcome for his client, including monetary sanctions.
The fraudulent documents bore the forged signature of the judge, who confirmed they never authorized the orders or their signature. Cohen intentionally created the fake orders to mislead his client into believing the case was progressing successfully.
Assistant United States Attorneys Carl J. Spindler and Mark Gurzo prosecuted the case. Details regarding the sentencing have not yet been released.
