NAPLES,Italy – Admiral George wikoff assumed command of U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa and Joint Force Command Naples on November 19, 2025, relieving Admiral Stuart Munsch after a three-year tenure marked by a focus on adapting to the evolving landscape of modern warfare. The change of command ceremony took place in Naples, Italy.
Wikoff’s appointment comes as the U.S. Navy continues to navigate increasing geopolitical complexities in both the european and African theaters.Munsch’s leadership was characterized by innovation and experimentation, particularly in integrating robotic and autonomous systems into fleet operations, preparing the command for future challenges. This transition ensures continuity of strategic focus while bringing a fresh perspective to the role.
Wikoff’s Navy career spans over three decades, including service in fighter squadrons VF-102 and VF-154 aboard the USS America and USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carriers, respectively. He has also held key positions on the joint staff as deputy director for operations and vice director.During Wednesday’s ceremony, Admiral John anderson, who presided over the event, praised Munsch for shaping a U.S. military strategy that proved effective during his command. “As you brought these insights here, innovating, experimenting, you quickly reorganized the headquarters and met the changing challenges of war,” Anderson said.
Vice Admiral David Grynkewich described Munsch as possessing “sensibility, intellect and a keen understanding of adversaries,” adding, “Seldom have I met a more capable, humble officer.”
Munsch, who took command in June 2022 and has served in the Navy for 40 years, was awarded the NATO Meritorious Medal, the U.S. Legion of Merit and the Italian Meritorious Medal. His next assignment remains undisclosed.
