Free software advocates bolstered the Free Software directory (FSD) with five new program listings and updates to existing entries during a collaborative meeting on Friday, November 14, 2025. The ongoing effort, coordinated by the Free Software Foundation (FSF), aims to maintain a comprehensive and reliable catalog of free software for users of free GNU-like operating systems.
The FSD serves as a vital resource for individuals and organizations seeking alternatives to proprietary software, promoting software freedom and user control. By contributing to the directory, volunteers directly support the FSD’s mission of highlighting high-quality, ethically-sourced software. Regular updates ensure the directory remains current and relevant, guiding users toward tools that respect their freedoms. The FSD is a project of the Free Software Foundation (FSF).
