St. Bonaventure University Announces Five New Athletics Hall of Fame Inductees
St. Bonaventure University has announced its newest class of Hall of Fame inductees, recognizing five individuals for their outstanding contributions to Bonnies athletics. The class includes men’s tennis standout Zach Post ’10, women’s lacrosse legend Christine Hanley ’11, basketball player Marquise Simmons ’09, cross country/track & field athlete Ashley Helbig ’11, and football player Andrew Nicholson ’09.
Zach Post was a three-time Atlantic 10 First Team All-conference selection and held the No. 1 singles spot for three of his four seasons. He was also a team captain three times and achieved a No. 14 ranking in the ITA Northeast Regional rankings in 2009 with teammate Jon Luce. Post’s dramatic victory in the 2009 Atlantic 10 Tournament, rallying from down 5-2 in the third set to clinch a win over george Washington, is remembered as one of the most memorable matches in program history. Head coach Michael Bates lauded Post as “the most dedicated and hardest working player I’ve ever had the privilege of coaching.” Post also received the Atlantic 10’s Sporting Award in 2009.
Christine Hanley is the Bonnies’ all-time leader in women’s lacrosse goals with 154, and her 195 total points rank third in program history. A four-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference selection, she was a First Team honoree in 2010 and 2011. Hanley led the team in games started (60), groundballs (124), and caused turnovers (88) at the time of her graduation and continues to rank in the top 10 in those categories. She earned Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team honors during her career and later served as an assistant coach for the Bonnies.
Marquise Simmons was a key player for the Bonnies men’s basketball team, contributing to the program’s success during his tenure.
Ashley Helbig excelled in both cross country and track & field, achieving meaningful accomplishments for St. Bonaventure.
Andrew Nicholson was a standout football player for the Bonnies, leaving a lasting impact on the program.
