Spain Pledges €615 Million in New Military Aid to Kyiv
Kyiv, Ukraine - November 16, 2025 – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced today a substantial new military aid package of €615 million for Ukraine, bolstering Kyiv’s defense capabilities as the conflict with Russia continues. The aid, unveiled amidst ongoing disruptions to civilian life caused by targeted infrastructure attacks, will provide critical resources for Ukraine’s armed forces.
The proclamation comes as Ukraine faces its most challenging period regarding electricity access since the start of the war, impacting both businesses and daily life. Cafes like the Trichkibilche in Kyiv are relying on generators to remain operational, but limitations exist - such as the inability to use ovens for baking – while citizens grapple with limited hours of power at home. “In terms of electricity, this is the most tough period since the start of the war. Psychologically, it’s very hard,” stated Virginie Nguyen Hoang, reporting from Kyiv. “I constantly have to deal with problems that I wasn’t used to. At home it’s also complicated: I only have six hours of electricity per day. When I come home from work and I don’t have power,I can’t take a shower or charge my phone, for example.”
Details of the military aid package have not been fully disclosed, but officials indicate it will include air defense systems and other essential equipment requested by the Ukrainian government. Spain has been a consistent supporter of Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, previously providing military assistance, humanitarian aid, and political backing for Kyiv’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The new commitment underscores Spain’s continued resolve to support Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression and its dedication to bolstering European security.
