NEW HAVEN, CT - November 17, 2025 – The No. 6 University of Virginia men’s squash team delivered a stunning upset, defeating No. 4 Yale University 6-3 at the Yale Squash Center today. The victory marks a notable early-season statement for the Cavaliers and disrupts the national rankings.
This result carries ample weight within the collegiate squash landscape, signaling Virginia’s potential to contend for the national championship this season. The Cavaliers secured victories in seven of the nine individual matches. JP Tew overcame a challenging battle against Lachlan Sutton, winning 11-1, 6-11, 6-11, 11-9, and 11-7. Nathan Rosenzweig dominated jack O’Flynn with an 11-7, 11-7, 11-5 win. Maxwell Velazquez secured a hard-fought victory over Bennett Eun, 14-12, 11-6, 5-11, 12-10.
Virginia also received wins from Arav Bhagwati, defeating Oliver Velasco 5-11, 11-5, 11-4, 9-11, 11-4; Krishna Mishra, besting Rick Chen 11-5, 11-8, 11-13, 11-8; and Oscar Okonkwo, who triumphed over Oliver Velasco 11-2, 9-11, 11-9, 11-8.
Yale managed three points through Rohan Gondi, who defeated Dylan Moran 12-10, 11-5, 11-8, and Rishi Srivastava, who battled back against Ewan Harris 13-15, 7-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-8. The Cavaliers’ decisive performance underscores their depth and resilience as they move forward in the 2025-2026 season.
