First Snows blanket Belgium, winter Conditions Expected to Intensify
Belgium is experiencing its first widespread snowfall of the season, with wintry conditions forecast to persist through the weekend and into next week. Rain showers, sleet, and even snow are falling across Lower and Middle Belgium, while the Ardennes region is seeing slush and accumulating snow, particularly at higher elevations.
The current weather system brings a notable drop in temperatures. Maximum temperatures today range from 0-1°C in the Hautes Fagnes to 8°C in western regions. A moderate to strong northwest wind is exacerbating the cold, creating a biting chill. Thunderclaps are also possible.
Looking Ahead:
* Thursday: Cloudy skies with a risk of winter showers, especially near the coast. South of the Sambre et Meuse furrow, expect gray conditions and reduced visibility. Isolated sunny spells and further winter showers are possible, with highs between 0-6°C.
* Friday: A widespread risk of (freezing) fog in the morning, potentially lingering throughout the day in some areas.Elsewhere, sunny conditions will bring temperatures up to 5-6°C. Winds will be light and variable.
* Weekend: Saturday will again see a risk of freezing fog, followed by sunshine and cold temperatures (0-4°C). Cloud cover may increase in the west later in the day. Sunday’s forecast is uncertain, with the potential for cloudier skies, precipitation – possibly wintry – and gradually milder temperatures, peaking around 5-6°C in central Belgium. The east of the country has the best chance of remaining sunny.
