Apple‘s $299 iPhone Pocket, a collaboration with Issey Miyake, has sold out in the US, despite widespread online criticism. The limited-edition accessory, launched last week, quickly disappeared from Apple’s online store and physical locations, according to reports.
The iPhone Pocket is a knitted polyester textile case designed to hold an iPhone while allowing users to access its features through the fabric. it comes in four colors – black, pink, navy, and turquoise – and retails for $299. The product is a collaboration between Apple and Japanese designer Issey Miyake, known for his innovative pleated designs.
Social media reaction to the announcement has been largely negative, with some commenters calling the product overpriced and out of touch. Others drew comparisons to the iPod Sock, a similar product Apple sold over 20 years ago for $29.
“Thought this was parody,” one commenter wrote online, while another asked, “Is it April Fools’ Day?”
Despite the criticism, some fans of Issey Miyake defend the accessory, viewing it as a fashion collectible. Content creator Michael Josh, who purchased several iPhone Pockets, described them as ”like owning a piece of art.”
