Escape from Tarkov Developer Faces Allegations of Supporting Russian Warfare
Oslo, Norway – Battlestate Games, the developer of the hardcore tactical first-person shooter Escape from Tarkov, is facing mounting scrutiny and accusations of financially supporting the Russian war effort in Ukraine. Allegations center around connections between CEO Nikita Buyanov and a pro-Russian association, 715 Team, which actively raises funds for the Russian military.
the controversy, gaining traction among the game’s player base, stems from a compilation of evidence detailed in recent reports by PC Gamer and other outlets. This includes photos and forum posts allegedly linking Buyanov to 715 Team, as well as documented visits to the Russian-occupied Donetsk region. Further fueling concerns are in-game elements within Escape from Tarkov – items and slogans – that appear to be connected to the same organization. While individually these instances may seem minor, critics argue thay collectively suggest a pattern of support for the Russian military.
The core of the issue revolves around the potential for player spending on Escape from Tarkov to indirectly fund the ongoing conflict. 715 Team is known for its fundraising activities directly benefiting the Russian army, and if Battlestate Games is found to be supporting the group, purchases within the game could be seen as contributing to the war.
Currently, battlestate Games has not publicly addressed the allegations. Many players are calling on the studio to release a statement clarifying its position and providing transparency regarding its financial ties. The lack of response has led to calls for boycotts and refund requests, with some players expressing a desire to withdraw their support from the game until the matter is resolved.
