Army Operation Nets Suspected Criminal Cell, Large Arsenal in Zacatecas
Jalpa, Zacatecas – A Mexican Army operation in the central streets of Jalpa, Zacatecas, resulted in the arrest of five individuals suspected of belonging to a criminal cell and the seizure of a important cache of weapons, drugs, and cash, the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense) announced today. The operation underscores ongoing efforts to combat organized crime in the state of Zacatecas, a region increasingly impacted by cartel violence.
The arrests and seizures, carried out during surveillance patrols and ground reconnaissance, represent a blow to criminal activity in the southeastern part of zacatecas.The recovered items – including firearms, grenades, and ample quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana – highlight the firepower at the disposal of these groups and the potential for escalating violence. Authorities are now working to determine the detainees’ connections and the cell’s broader operational network.
According to a statement from the Fifth Military Region and the 11th Military Zone, based in Guadalupe, the seized items included six firearms, 1,522 cartridges of various calibers, two grenade launcher attachments, six 40 millimeter caliber grenades, 952 doses of methamphetamine, 671 doses of cocaine, 192 doses of marijuana, 636,700 pesos in cash, 12 cell phones, and three vehicles.
The detainees and seized property have been turned over to the appropriate authorities for investigation and prosecution. Defense affirmed that the operation was conducted “with strict adherence to the rule of law and full respect for human rights,helping to preserve the freedoms,order and public peace of zacatecan society.”
