Putnam County Man Arrested in Connection with fatal Stabbing at Dollar General
Putnam County, NY – A man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder following the fatal stabbing of a woman at a dollar General store in carmel, New York, on February 29, 2024. The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Madalyn mcknight of Mahopac.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:00 PM at the Dollar General located on Route 6. Authorities responded to reports of a stabbing and discovered McKnight with critical injuries. She was transported to Putnam Hospital centre, where she was pronounced dead. The arrest of 37-year-old Michael Gagliardi of Carmel marks a significant growth in the investigation, offering a measure of accountability to the victimS family and the concerned community. Gagliardi is currently being held without bail and faces a lengthy prison sentence if convicted. The stabbing has shaken the typically quiet town of Carmel, prompting increased vigilance and a focus on supporting those affected by the tragedy.
According to the putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Gagliardi and McKnight knew each other. Investigators have not yet released details regarding a potential motive, but stated the stabbing did not appear to be random.
