Rueda summons Defender Deyron Martinez as Honduras Prepares for Crucial costa Rica Clash
TEGUCIGALPA,Honduras - Honduras national team coach Reinaldo Rueda has called up defender Deyron Martinez of Olancho FC ahead of Tuesday’s pivotal World Cup 2026 qualifying match against Costa Rica. The addition comes as La H grapple with a growing list of absences due to injury and suspension, intensifying the pressure surrounding the game.
Everything before the match in Costa Rica determines whether Honduras will secure a direct ticket to the 2026 World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, or be relegated to fighting for a playoff spot. Rueda is already without defenders Denil Maldonado, Julian Martinez, and Marcelo santos, and now faces the absence of Getsel Montes, who received his second yellow card in the recent 2-0 loss to Nicaragua. Martinez, 25, was previously part of the national team setup in October and provides needed depth.
Honduras arrived back in Tegucigalpa on Friday and will train Saturday before departing via charter flight to San José on Sunday. The team will scout the INS stadium field on Monday, ahead of the crucial Tuesday contest.
