Nursing Student Hailed a hero After Stockholm Bus Crash
Stockholm, Sweden – A nursing student is being credited with saving lives after a bus crashed into a bus shelter in Stockholm’s Östermalm district yesterday around 3:30 pm, leaving multiple people injured. Zaid, who asked to be identified only by his first name, sprang into action, stemming heavy bleeding from one victim and providing crucial support to others until emergency services arrived.
The incident unfolded rapidly, creating a scene described by eyewitnesses as “total chaos.” While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, police have stated they do not believe it was a terrorist act and have arrested the bus driver on suspicion of serious manslaughter. This event underscores the vital role ordinary citizens can play in emergency situations, and highlights the resilience of the Stockholm community in the face of unexpected tragedy.
Zaid recounted the harrowing experience to Swedish publication aftonbladet,stating,”It felt like a movie. It was surreal. It was terrible. All I heard was screaming and people crying. people were lying on the ground.They had no idea what to do, they panicked.” He focused on providing immediate aid, calming those in distress, and offering guidance to others assisting the injured.
Medical staff and police on the scene praised Zaid’s quick thinking and decisive actions. “The ambulance,fire brigade and police thanked me for intervening and saving the man who was bleeding profusely,” Zaid said. He wasn’t alone in offering assistance; a surgeon and a doctor were also present,providing medical care at the scene.
Sister Michelle Mac Key, another witness, described the scene to Expressen as deeply disturbing, saying, “It gives me chills. It’s so horrible,” as injured and deceased individuals lay on the ground.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The focus now shifts to supporting the injured and providing answers to a community shaken by the event.
