Istanbul,Turkey – A devastating incident has unfolded in Istanbul, where two young children,a three-year-old and a six-year-old,have died after exhibiting symptoms consistent with food poisoning. The children, who were visiting from Hamburg, Germany, passed away on Tuesday despite emergency medical intervention.
according to IstanbulS Deputy Health Director, Abdullah Emre Güner, the children were hospitalized and received treatment, but regrettably could not be saved. Güner announced the news via X (formerly Twitter). Both parents are currently receiving intensive care at a local hospital.
the family arrived in Istanbul on Sunday and were staying in a hotel in the city’s historic old town. Preliminary investigations,as reported by the Turkish state news agency anadolu, suggest the children and their parents consumed mussels from both a street vendor and a restaurant on Monday.
The family initially sought medical attention on Tuesday, presenting with symptoms of vomiting and nausea. They were initially released from the hospital, but emergency services were later dispatched to their hotel after the mother and daughter were found unresponsive.
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the illness and to identify any potential public health risks. The investigation is focusing on the source of the mussels consumed by the family.
