Tom Felton to Reprise Role as Draco Malfoy in Broadway production of ‘Harry Potter and teh Cursed Child’
NEW YORK – tom Felton, best known for his portrayal of Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series, will return to the character on Broadway this fall in the stage production Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The announcement marks a full-circle moment for the actor, who will be the same age as his character is depicted in the play - 19 years after the events of the original books.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child picks up where J.K. Rowling’s novels left off, following the children of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger as they navigate Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The play has already garnered important acclaim, winning nine Olivier Awards and five Tony Awards. Felton expressed his excitement about revisiting the role, stating, “It’s surreal to be stepping back into his shoes – and of course his iconic platinum blond hair – and I am thrilled to be able to see his story through and to share it with the greatest fan community in the world.”
Felton shared that being part of the Harry Potter films was “one of the greatest honours of my life,” and he looks forward to joining the production’s “amazing company and being a part of the Broadway community.”
The news arrives alongside updates regarding a new Harry Potter television adaptation currently in progress at HBO. Casting announcements include John Lithgow as Professor Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. Newcomers dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout have been cast as Harry, Hermione, and Ron, respectively. The series is slated to premiere in 2027, with each season covering one book from the original series.
