Mobile Service Disruption Looms as ‍Telia Shuts Down 2G Network

OSLO, ⁣NORWAY – Millions of mobile users in Norway face potential service disruption as Telia begins decommissioning its 2G network, a process expected to ‌impact older handsets and certain machine-to-machine connections.Svendsen,a Telia representative,warns that equipment relying⁣ on the 2G network will ⁤cease functioning in affected areas. The shutdown is rolling ⁤out now and ⁤will continue throughout the year.

The move, while intended to bolster faster 4G and 5G services, necessitates an upgrade ⁣for customers still using ‌older mobile technology. Telia estimates a meaningful portion of‍ its customer base is unaffected, possessing devices compatible with newer ⁤networks. ‌However, those unsure about ⁢their phone’s capabilities are urged to ‌check Telia’s website, contact customer support, ‍or visit a Telia store for assistance.

The 2G network, over 30 years old, is increasingly obsolete, primarily used today for voice⁤ calls and basic‍ machine dialog. Closing it down frees up valuable frequency spectrum to enhance and expand Telia’s 4G and 5G infrastructure, delivering faster speeds, improved efficiency, and wider coverage.

How to Check 2G Compatibility:

The‌ majority of mobile‍ phones currently in use support 4G and/or 5G.Users can verify compatibility within their phone’s settings, navigating to “Mobile network” or “Data communication” options. Selecting 4G/5G options for voice and data indicates support.Absence of⁣ these options signifies an older device requiring replacement.

* ‍ Status Bar Check: During a call, a 4G or LTE indicator at the top of the screen confirms 4G voice support.
* Model Number Lookup:

‍* iPhone: Settings > General > About‍ Phone
* ⁣ Android: Settings > About Phone
‌* Search ‌the model number online or on⁣ the manufacturer’s website to determine network compatibility.

Enabling 4G Voice (VoLTE):

For phones supporting 4G Voice,ensure it is activated in settings:

* iPhone: Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular‍ Data Options -> Enable LTE. Select “Voice ‍and data” for 4G calling.
* Samsung: ⁣ Settings ->‌ Connections -> Mobile network -> Turn on 4G calls.
* Othre: Consult the ⁣device’s user⁤ manual.
