‘A‍ Bit Otherworldly’: Groundbreaking ‌First Aluminium Velodrome Opens in the US

Tucson, Arizona – A state-of-the-art ⁢velodrome, the first of⁢ its ‍kind in ‍the ‌united States constructed entirely of aluminium, has officially opened its doors ‍in Tucson, ‌Arizona. The new facility promises⁢ to elevate track cycling ‍in the region adn attract elite ‌athletes while fostering community engagement⁢ through youth programs.

Designed by Canadian ⁢Peter ⁤Junek, a veteran of velodrome construction‌ with over 30 tracks to his credit⁤ worldwide – including the high-altitude ‍velodrome in Aguascalientes, Mexico, a renowned location for ⁤record attempts – the Tucson Velodrome is already garnering praise from experienced riders. Masters track rider ⁤Karl Baumgart, ​among the first to experience the track, described‌ it as⁣ “up there with ⁢the best of‌ them,” having ridden on world-class tracks globally.

The ⁢velodrome, a project spearheaded by Tucson Velodrome Inc., aims to serve a⁣ dual‌ purpose: providing ⁢a⁤ controlled surroundings for cyclists of all levels to train and ride, and⁢ introducing the​ sport to⁤ a⁤ new‍ generation.‍ According to a media release, youth​ and school programs ‌will be central⁣ to the facilityS mission, offering instruction‌ from trained and certified coaches in a safe setting.
