Burning debris fell across the Russian city of Oryol this morning following a reported Ukrainian attack, as verified by BBC Verify. Video footage shows what appears to be Russian air defenses engaging targets, with burning fragments raining down on residential areas amid sounding sirens and car alarms.
The incident marks the latest in a series of Ukrainian strikes targeting Russian territory, escalating tensions as the conflict continues. Oryol regional governor Andrey Klychkov warned residents of “missile” threats and later stated Russian air defenses had destroyed “several objects,” causing damage to cars, windows, and balconies, though no casualties have been reported so far.
BBC Verify geolocated the video to the western edge of Oryol by comparing distinctive apartment blocks and a car park layout to satellite imagery from the Russian search engine Yandex. The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed Ukrainian drone attacks across multiple regions, including Oryol.
This is not the first time Oryol city has been targeted. In late October,BBC Verify previously confirmed videos showing explosions near the city’s power station.
