POKROVSK,UKRAINE – Ukrainian President ‌Volodymyr Zelenskyy has described the situation in Pokrovsk ‌as “very difficult,” as fierce fighting continues with Russian forces. Recent reports indicate Russian troops advanced on the city under the cover of fog, hindering Ukrainian drone surveillance.

Commander-in-Chief of the⁣ Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi emphasized the importance of securing designated areas and protecting supply routes for a successful defence of Pokrovsk, alongside establishing additional logistics lines⁣ for timely delivery of supplies and wounded evacuation. He refuted claims of Russian control over the city or an operational encirclement of Ukrainian defenses, stating, “The fighting continues!”

The focus on Pokrovsk comes as the U.S. signals a potential limit to further sanctions against Russia. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking at the⁤ G7⁢ foreign ministers’ meeting in Canada, indicated Washington ⁢has ⁣largely exhausted options for‍ new restrictions, notably on major oil companies. The focus will now shift to enforcing existing sanctions and addressing Russia’s use of a “shadow fleet” to circumvent them, according ⁣to President Donald Trump’s Secretary.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials report continued heavy Russian losses. Over ‍the past day, Russia is alleged to ‌have suffered 1,180 casualties – killed or wounded – bringing the total estimated losses since February ‍24, 2022, to approximately 1,155,360 soldiers. Additionally, Ukraine claims Russia has‍ lost around 11,344 tanks, 23,567 armored fighting vehicles, and 34,388 artillery systems.
