matthäus Criticizes Nagelsmann‘s Public Handling of Sané
Germany legend Lothar Matthäus has publicly criticized national team coach Julian Nagelsmann for his handling of forward Leroy Sané, specifically objecting to Nagelsmann’s recent statement about Sané having limited opportunities to prove himself. “I think it’s unnecessary to make an declaration to him publicly and talk about a last chance,” Matthäus told “Bild.” “The national coach can do that in private, but not publicly. it will also cause discussions in the team.”
Nagelsmann recently stated about sané, who was recently brought back into the national team, “Leroy knows what is required and he also knows that there are no longer countless, many chances to prove yourself at the national team level, at least under my leadership.”
Matthäus also expressed concern over Nagelsmann’s communication regarding the omission of Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller, and a broader pattern of creating unnecessary discussion. “Julian opens up too many construction sites, he creates a lot of unnecessary topics,” Matthäus said.”Maybe he thinks that he is doing everything right with his way of communicating – I know that, it was often no different for me in the past, I didn’t want to listen to others. but he should rethink some points and also listen to his advisors, who should influence him hear. Nagelsmann has to accept the advice and question himself.”
Germany will play World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg on Friday at 8:45 p.m. and slovakia on Monday in Leipzig at 8:45 p.m., with live coverage available on t-online.
