## Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Details Launch Matchmaking System
Ahead of the November 14th worldwide release of *Call of Duty: Black Ops 7*, Treyarch has outlined the matchmaking system players can expect in the initial days of the game. The studio intends to prioritize open matchmaking in the majority of playlists, aiming to create a more accessible experience for both new and veteran players. Though, this approach will be tempered by skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) in specific modes.
Treyarch confirmed that “most game modes will feature open matchmaking, meaning game level will have minimal influence.” This design choice seeks to replicate the experience of the game’s open beta, which the studio found representative of their desired player experience: “the experience will be similar to that of the open beta of Black Ops 7.” This means players will be placed into matches with less emphasis on their skill level or statistics, fostering a more randomized and customary *Call of Duty* feel.
While most modes will be open, a dedicated Moshpit mode will utilize SBMM. “A Moshpit game mode, the content of which will be renewed regularly, will be available. In this mode, the game level will have a greater impact,” Treyarch stated. this contrasts with other playlists, where player level will be a less significant factor in matchmaking.
The studio also announced that Ranked play, featuring full SBMM, will be introduced in Season 2. This has prompted some community concern about potential expansion of SBMM into other modes. Treyarch has attempted to address these concerns by promising clarity: “the type of matchmaking used for each playlist will be indicated,” allowing players to select modes based on their preferred matchmaking style.
Further enhancing the multiplayer experience, Treyarch confirmed the return of persistent lobbies, “persistent lobbies will be an integral part of multiplayer mode,” a feature that has been absent from several recent titles.treyarch concluded by emphasizing that the system is subject to change. “The community will have to wait to see how the developer adjusts the game in the months to come,” they stated, assuring players that their feedback will be considered in future matchmaking balancing adjustments.
