West Michigan & Upper Peninsula Under Winter Storm Warnings

Winter Storm Warnings are currently in effect for portions of ‌West Michigan and ‍the⁢ Upper Peninsula. These areas are expected to receive substantial snowfall, coupled with strong winds, creating blizzard-like conditions and⁣ possibly leading to scattered power outages. Commutes will be significantly impacted.

Coastal‍ communities along Lake Michigan, including Ludington and Benton Harbor, are forecast to accumulate‍ 3 to 6 inches of⁤ snow by evening.⁢ Cities surrounding⁣ these areas – Muskegon, Grand Rapids, Holland, and South Haven – are ⁢under a⁣ winter Storm Advisory.

further north, in the⁢ Upper Peninsula, marquette and Alger⁢ counties are predicted to receive 2 to 4 inches of snow, with wind‍ gusts potentially reaching 20 mph. ‌Additional advisories extend to Keweenaw, Houghton, Baraga, Delta, Luce, and parts of Schoolcraft counties and remain in effect through Tuesday.

metro Detroit: Cold Temperatures and Potential⁤ Overnight⁢ Snow

While ‌Metro Detroit ⁢is expected to avoid significant snowfall during the day, residents should be prepared⁣ for the possibility of⁣ up to an inch⁣ of accumulation overnight. ⁢ ⁣Monday’s high temperature is forecast⁢ to be 34 degrees Fahrenheit, with ⁢overnight lows dropping⁣ to 24 degrees. Wind chills are expected to fall ⁤below 20 degrees, creating dangerously cold conditions.

The frigid⁤ temperatures ⁤are expected to persist ⁤into Tuesday before a gradual warming trend begins later in the week.

Weekend‍ Snowfall Sets the Stage

This current system follows ⁤a weekend that saw Michigan experiance its first⁢ widespread snowfall of the season. Metro Detroit recorded approximately 2 inches of snow, while areas‌ west of Marquette received up to 18 inches.

Travel Advisory

The Michigan Department of⁣ Transportation (MDOT) advises motorists‍ to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. ⁣if travel is essential, drivers should:
