Cancelo Hints at Potential European Return amid Al-Hilal Contract
Portugal international João Cancelo has publicly expressed his desire too return to European football, despite currently being under contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal until 2027. The revelation comes as the winter transfer window approaches,potentially opening the door for clubs across Europe‘s top leagues to pursue the experienced full-back.
Cancelo, who has recently earned a recall to the Portuguese national team for upcoming matches against Ireland (November 13) adn Armenia (November 16), acknowledged the growing quality of the Saudi Pro League as his arrival. Though, he affirmed his ambition to once again compete in Europe, stating, “Of course I dream of playing in Europe again. I currently have one year left on my contract with Al-Hilal, but I remain open to a return.The future will tell.”
The 30-year-old has a distinguished career in Europe, having played for Juventus, inter Milan, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona. His versatility and attacking prowess make him a valuable asset, and several clubs may view him as a potential reinforcement in January.
