Betty Harford, a veteran actress with a career spanning seven decades, has died at the age of 98. her passing was confirmed by friend Wendy Mitchell to The Hollywood Reporter on November 2nd, with Harford passing away in Santa Barbara, California.
While Harford appeared in numerous television programs since the 1950s, she is best remembered for her roles as the efficient secretary, Mr. Nottingham, in the 1970s legal drama “the Paper Chase,” and as cook Hilda Gunnerson in the iconic 1980s soap opera “Dynasty.” her work showcased a talent for portraying memorable supporting characters who added depth and warmth to beloved series.
Harford’s portrayal of Hilda Gunnerson on “Dynasty” spanned 34 episodes across the show’s first eight seasons, from 1981 to 1989. She later reprised the role in the 1991 miniseries, “Dynasty: The Reunion.” prior to this, she gained recognition for her work as Mr. nottingham alongside John Houseman‘s formidable Professor kingsfield in “the Paper Chase,” as reported by Variety.
Her extensive television credits also include appearances in classic shows such as “Alfred Hitchcock Presents,” “Dr. Kildare,” “The Twilight Zone,” “The Big valley,” “Fireside Theatre,” and “Luv Video theatre.” In 1977, she appeared as a nurse in the James Bridges-directed film “September 30, 1955,” starring Richard Thomas. During the 1960s, Harford was an active member of the UCLA Theatre group, further honing her craft.
