Daegu & Tallinn harmonize: Cities Deepen⁢ Musical Collaboration

Daegu, South Korea – A delegation from Tallinn, Estonia – a fellow UNESCO Creative City of Music – concluded a productive visit to Daegu November 8th, solidifying a burgeoning partnership aimed at fostering cultural exchange and expanding opportunities for musicians in ⁢both cities. Tallinn, recognized by UNESCO in 2021 for its thriving music scene encompassing jazz, classical, and contemporary styles, and its lively festival ⁤culture, first connected with Daegu at the 2022 UNESCO Creative City of Music Daegu Global Forum. The Tallinn delegation’s intensive four-day program‍ included tours of Daegu’s key concert halls, ‍arts ‌organizations, and creative spaces. Meetings with festival organizers, arts groups, and cultural policy leaders focused on developing future collaborative projects, including artist residencies, joint performances, and ‍potentially, new cross-city festivals.

“This visit is a significant ⁤step in strengthening Daegu’s global presence within the‍ UNESCO Creative Cities Network,”⁢ stated Choi Mi-kyung, Director of the cultural Arts Policy Division of Daegu Metropolitan City. “Daegu’s interconnected musical landscape – encompassing venues, festivals, ‌and creative hubs – provides a strong foundation for this exchange.⁢ We are committed to expanding ‌opportunities for our ‌local musicians on ‍the international stage and further establishing Daegu as a⁤ leading global Creative City of Music.”
