Temple Women’s Basketball looks to Continue Momentum Against West Virginia
PHILADELPHIA - Riding high off a pair of recent victories, the Temple University women’s basketball team aims to extend its win streak as it faces West Virginia on Wednesday. The Owls are coming off a strong showing against George Mason and George Washington, fueled by career performances from several players. This matchup presents an early-season test for a Temple squad under new leadership and featuring a core of returning players poised to make a notable impact.
This season marks a new chapter for Temple Women’s basketball, with Jaleesa Molina, Tristen Taylor, and Kaylah Turner named team captains. taylor and Molina are the onyl returning starters from last year’s team, bringing valuable experience to a roster undergoing transition.Taylor lead the team in assists last season, averaging 3.6 per game, while Molina contributed 7.4 points and 7 rebounds per game, boasting a 52.5% field goal percentage. Turner also provides a scoring threat, having averaged 10.1 points per game while shooting 41% from the field and 37% from three.
Drew alexander has emerged as a key contributor early in the season, tying a career-high 13 points and securing a career-high 7 rebounds against George Washington. She followed that performance with another 13-point outing against George Mason, shooting 5-8 from the field. Kelian cedano also made her mark against George Mason, recording a career-high 10 points in 20 minutes of action.
Beyond on-court performance, tristen Taylor has been recognized for her commitment to service, earning the Kay Yow Servant Leader Award, a distinction spanning 22 conferences across all divisions of collegiate basketball. Taylor will wear a special patch on her jersey throughout the season to honor the award.
Temple returns home on Friday, November 11, for a big 5 matchup against La Salle, following Wednesday’s game against West Virginia.Tip-off is set for 11 a.m., with coverage on ESPN+.
