Horror Fans, prepare to Cuddle Close: ‘Good Boy’ Arrives on Shudder november 21
Horror fans and dog lovers alike have a new reason to check under the couch next week. Good Boy, the unsettling new film exploring supernatural terror through a canine perspective, will debut on Shudder November 21. The movie follows a man seeking solace in a remote family home after an illness, only to discover his loyal dog, Indy, is picking up on unsettling presences he can’t perceive.
The film taps into a common experience for pet owners – the feeling that their animals are aware of things beyond our understanding. Director Ben Leonberg built Good Boy around this very idea, inspired by a classic scene in Poltergeist. “I was watching poltergeist probably for the millionth time, and if you remember, that film starts with the golden retriever wandering around the house, clearly clued in that something haunting is going on before the humans have realized it,” Leonberg explained in an interview with io9. “I thought, ‘Someone should make a story entirely from that dog’s point of view.'”
Set in a damp, isolated forest, Good Boy promises a chilling November viewing experience. The film stars Leonberg’s own dog, Indy, and explores the unsettling realization that restless spirits may not be alone in the old family home. Viewers may find themselves looking at their own pets with a newfound sense of gratitude – and perhaps a little fear – after watching.
