COOKEVILLE, tenn. – Lindenwood University women’s soccer saw its bid for a conference championship fall short Sunday, dropping a 1-0 decision to tennessee Tech in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title game. The loss concludes a historic season for the lions, who reached the championship contest for the second consecutive year.
Lindenwood finished the 2023 season with a 10-5-5 overall record, achieving double-digit wins for the second year in a row. The team posted a 5-2-2 conference record, earning the No.3 seed in the tournament and advancing to the final after victories over SIUE and Little Rock. Despite the defeat, the program’s continued success signals a rising trajectory within the OVC.
Anna Johnson led Lindenwood’s offensive effort in the championship match, recording a team-high three shots, two on goal. Mackenzie Compton and Maddy Vasiloff each added two shots with one attempt on goal apiece. Goalkeeper caroline Ritter tallied five saves throughout the contest.
The Lions celebrated several individual accolades this season, with Mackenzie Compton, Tasneem Dizdarevic, Rachel Jackson, and Allison Schrumpf earning second Team All-OVC honors. Alysse Lamb was recognized on the All-Newcomer team. Compton, Jackson, and Johnson were also named to the OVC All-Tournament Team, acknowledging their contributions throughout the postseason run.
