Facial Asymmetry, Not Just Wrinkles, is a Key Sign of Aging, Says French aesthetic Doctor
Paris, France – While many focus on wrinkles as the primary indicator of aging, a leading French aesthetic doctor says a more subtle – and often overlooked – sign is increasing facial asymmetry. Dr. Catherine de Goursac, a member of the scientific council of the French Association of aesthetic and anti-aging medicine (AFME), revealed this insight in a recent interview with 60 Million consumers magazine.
According to Dr. de Goursac, everyone possesses some degree of facial asymmetry, but it becomes more noticeable with age as we lose facial volume. “This asymmetry is seen more with age, when we lose the plump side of youth,” she explained to the publication. This loss of volume accentuates existing imbalances, leading to a more pronounced asymmetry.
The doctor also cautioned against rushing to cosmetic solutions like hyaluronic acid injections, warning that “We think that injecting early can be harmful, distorting the face.“ She emphasized the importance of consulting with a qualified professional to determine the most appropriate course of action, rather than seeking injections as a quick fix.
Dr. de Goursac further noted that self-perception can play a role, as we often view ourselves critically in the mirror – a reversed image – and may underestimate our appearance in past photos. ”We always see ourselves in a mirror, therefore upside down, and, what’s more, very often we judge ourselves badly: take a photo from ten years ago, you will undoubtedly find yourself not bad then, even though at the time, you found yourself faulty,“ she stated.
