Former Metrodome Seats Continue to Appear in Minnesota Sports Facilities
Minneapolis, MN – Remnants of the iconic Metrodome are still being spotted in current Minnesota sports venues, years after the stadium’s demolition in 2014. Recent Streetview images reveal blue seats originally from the Metrodome are in use at Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins, as of 2024.This revelation highlights the enduring legacy of the “Dome” and the continued efforts to repurpose pieces of its history.
The Metrodome, which served as the home for both the Minnesota Vikings and Twins for decades, was imploded in January 2014 to make way for U.S. Bank Stadium. While many seats were sold to the public, a significant number found new homes in other facilities across the country. Beyond Target Field, online records indicate Metrodome seats have been distributed for use in various settings throughout Minnesota and other states, preserving a tangible connection to the stadium’s past for fans and communities.
Following the demolition, over 60,000 seats were made available for purchase. Many were acquired by individuals, but a substantial portion was also purchased by organizations and institutions. The Twins notably acquired a large number of the blue seats, integrating them into Target Field, which opened in 2010. While the exact number of original Metrodome seats currently at Target Field is unknown, their continued presence offers a nostalgic touch for fans who remember the Dome’s unique atmosphere.
