International Forum Focuses on Amazon‘s Lessons for Global Health & Climate Resilience
Belém, Brazil – Teh Regional Nursing Council of Pará (Coren-PA) is hosting the International Forum “Health and Climate: Lessons from the Amazon for the World” this Thursday at the Hotel Sagres in Belém. The event, a key component of Coren-PA’s Sustainable Health Movement: From the Amazon to the World, will feature insights from three leading experts from the University of Michigan.
The forum will welcome Jeanne-Marie Stacciarini, a global health specialist and leader of the PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center, whose research centers on mental and behavioral health. Also participating is Sue Anne Bell, whose work focuses on building resilient health systems capable of withstanding disasters and climate-related risks. Completing the panel is Katherine Kruger,a nurse and doctoral researcher specializing in public health emergencies, with a focus on the critical role of nursing in crisis response and strengthening health system resilience.
“Without health, sustainability is unattainable,” stated Antônio Marcos Freire,President of Coren-PA. “This forum provides a vital opportunity to share our sustainable initiatives in the Amazon with these international experts, and to learn from experiences in other regions, ultimately fostering collaborative solutions for a more sustainable global health future.”
The forum is organized in partnership with the Municipal health Council (CMS) and the Paraense Growth Institute (IPAD).It builds on recent Coren-PA initiatives, including the “Amazon Dialogues: health and Science with Indigenous Peoples” meeting held November 5th, and the 1st International Conference on Innovation in Health (thinc 2025) and Education in Movement for Sustainability in the Amazon Context, which took place in October and brought together nursing students from across the region.
The Sustainable Health Movement was launched in August, aiming to promote health and sustainability specifically within the Amazon region, and in anticipation of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Belém.
