JBL Dismisses Claims Chair Shot Contributed to Eddie Guerrero’s Death
HOUSTON, TX – Wrestling legend John “Bradshaw” Layfield (JBL) has directly addressed persistent internet rumors suggesting a chair shot during Eddie guerrero‘s final match may have contributed to his untimely death in 2005. Speaking on the something to Wrestle podcast, JBL emphatically denied the theory, stating, ”No, yeah, never. Not one time, no. And I think I’ve heard that over the years…nobody thought that.”
guerrero, a beloved figure in professional wrestling, passed away on November 13, 2005, at the age of 38. The circumstances surrounding his death sparked numerous theories, including speculation that the physical toll of wrestling, specifically a chair shot received in his last televised match, played a role.
JBL countered this notion, explaining, “guys have gotten 1000s of chair shots over the years, and guys don’t die from chair shots, you know? And so I get why the conspiracy gets put together. Hard chair shot you die, however long later it was. And I get why people could put, you know, two and two together like that, and get that. but nobody at the time thought that, and I certainly don’t believe that.”
The former WWE Champion further clarified that Guerrero showed no visible signs of physical distress. “Apparently, his heart just stopped,” JBL recounted, referencing accounts from chavo Guerrero, who discovered Eddie. “He got up in the morning, brushed his teeth, and just died…his heart just quit. His life was over.” JBL emphasized there where no pre-existing health concerns or indications of a deteriorating condition.
An official autopsy report subsequently confirmed that Guerrero died of acute heart failure caused by underlying arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
