TOKYO (Kyodo) – The latest installment in the globally successful ”Demon Slayer” anime franchise,”Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Part 1: Akaza Returns,” will premiere in mainland China on November 14,according to official announcements on Chinese social media. The film, already the highest-grossing anime movie worldwide, was released in Japan in July.
The release follows months of anticipation from Chinese fans, many of whom traveled to Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan to view the film after its August debut in those regions.
The “Infinity Castle” film is a sequel to the 2020 hit, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — The Movie: Mugen Train,” which has yet to be approved for release in mainland china. Some Chinese media outlets have suggested the 2020 film’s “excessively bloody battle scenes” may be hindering its approval.
The proclamation of the release date came shortly after Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi met in South Korea last week, where they agreed to strengthen “strategic and mutually beneficial” bilateral ties.
