At ⁤least 46 people ‌have died in the Philippines following major flooding triggered by heavy rainfall in recent ⁢days, authorities reported Tuesday. The devastation spans multiple regions, displacing thousands and prompting President Ferdinand R. marcos jr. to order an acceleration of relief efforts and reconstruction.

The island nation is especially vulnerable ⁤to extreme weather events,experiencing⁤ an average of 20 typhoons and‍ storms annually. These recurring disasters disproportionately impact impoverished communities, exacerbating existing challenges and hindering long-term development. The recent floods, compounded by the‌ earlier impact of ⁤Typhoon Ragasa in September, underscore the Philippines’ ongoing battle with climate change and the urgent need for resilient infrastructure.

Millions residing in vulnerable areas are affected by the ongoing crisis. Weather specialist Charmagne Varilla anticipates at least ⁣three to five more‍ storms before the end of December, according​ to AFP.

President Marcos ​jr. stated on Tuesday that authorities must maintain relief work and expedite the ⁤rebuilding of communities impacted by typhoon Kalmaegi, as ⁤reported by IBC TV13. The‌ Inquirer reports that the recent flooding has caused widespread damage⁢ and disruption across the archipelago.
