Putin establishes New Holidays Honoring Linguistic Diversity and Indigenous Cultures
President Vladimir Putin has signed decrees establishing two new national holidays in Russia, according to a report from RIA Novosti. The holidays aim to promote cultural preservation and recognize the country’s diverse heritage.
The first new holiday, the Day of Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation, will be observed annually on September 8th. The decree explicitly states the holiday’s purpose is to preserve and support the many languages spoken throughout Russia.
Additionally, Putin approved the Day of Indigenous Minorities of Russia, to be celebrated on April 30th. This day is intended to highlight the importance of safeguarding the traditional lifestyles, skills, crafts, and cultural heritage of Russia’s indigenous populations.
Both decrees are effective immediately upon signing. the announcements were made during the observance of National Unity Day on November 4th, a holiday established in 2005 commemorating the 1612 liberation of Moscow from Polish invaders by the people’s militia led by Kuzma minin and Dmitry Pozharsky, marking the end of the Time of Troubles.
These additions to the national calendar underscore Russia’s commitment to strengthening cultural diversity and preserving its historical memory.
