Title: AMD Driver Update: RX 6000 Series Get Game Optimizations

AMD ‌Reverses Course, Will Continue ⁣Optimizing Radeon ‍RX 5000 and 6000 series GPUs

AMD ⁤has announced ‍it will resume delivering game-related optimizations for its Radeon RX 5000 and RX 6000⁢ series graphics cards, reversing an earlier ‍plan to move these older architectures into “maintenance mode.” The shift comes after initial driver⁢ update missteps and community feedback.

Previously, AMD indicated the RX 5000 (RDNA 1)⁤ and RX 6000 (RDNA 2) series would primarily receive bug fixes, with no new⁣ optimizations for games. This position followed an initial release of an incorrect driver version, followed ⁣by corrections, and a revised statement regarding the Radeon RX 7900 series.

However, AMD⁣ now states both RDNA 1 and RDNA 2-based‍ cards are eligible for⁣ continued game optimizations,⁢ though⁤ the reason for the change – whether due to public⁣ response or internal clarification – remains unspecified.

A dedicated team will continue to develop ⁣drivers specifically for the newer Radeon RX 7000‌ and ⁤RX ‌9000 series (RDNA 3 and RDNA 4), aiming to ⁢avoid ‍conflicts with features on older models. The company also clarified that the October 25.10.2 driver does not alter⁢ functionality of the USB-C port, including Power Delivery ⁢support, correcting ⁣earlier ‍inaccurate information.

AMD intends this distributed driver development⁤ approach to‌ ensure new features for newer ‍cards⁤ don’t negatively impact older hardware. The company will assess market needs to⁢ determine which new functions ⁣will be implemented for⁣ the RX ‍5000 and⁢ RX⁣ 6000 ⁤series alongside bug fixes and the newly reinstated game optimizations.
