BVB Links Contract Extension for ‌Julian Brandt to Performance, Salary Adjustments

Dortmund, Germany -⁤ Borussia Dortmund is open to ‍extending Julian Brandt’s contract, which currently expires at the end of the season, but is setting clear conditions tied to both performance and salary, according to recent statements and reports.

Discussions between the ⁤club ‍and‍ Brandt’s representatives are planned, though any new deal would require the 29-year-old to accept a reduction from his current estimated annual salary of seven to eight million euros. The ⁣proposed extension would‍ also be heavily performance-based, incentivizing on-field contributions.

BVB sporting⁣ director Lars Ricken recently stated, “We’ll see⁢ how the season goes. He’s fighting his way out of his slump, I ⁢can ‌also ⁤imagine a contract extension if the performance is right,”⁤ speaking on “Sky90.”

Reports from⁤ “Sport Bild” indicate the club initially intended to evaluate Brandt’s development through a probationary period extending until March, with a new contract contingent on improved performance during that timeframe.

Brandt himself downplayed contract talks following a 2-0 win against 1. FSV Mainz 05 ‍on⁢ September 30th, stating, ‌”If there’s one thing I’m not thinking about right now, it’s my‌ contract. We don’t need to talk about it until winter.”

Head coach Niko Kovac has publicly expressed his ‌desire to retain Brandt, ⁢saying, “I know exactly what Julian can do.He is an important player for us, for the club, and I hope he stays here for a‌ long time.”

Through 13 competitive games this season, Brandt has scored four goals and⁢ provided two assists for⁢ Borussia Dortmund.
