Police Release Man Following Knife Attack on Train in Huntingdon
HUNTINGDON, England – Police have released a 32-year-old British man who was taken into custody following a knife attack on a train traveling from Doncaster to London last night. Eleven people were injured in teh incident, which occurred near the town of Huntingdon, adn one remains in critical condition. Authorities have stated they do not believe the attack was terrorism-related.
The incident prompted a large-scale emergency response, involving numerous ambulances, emergency teams, and three rescue helicopters. While the motive for the attack remains unclear, it underscores a concerning trend of increasing knife violence across England and Wales. Prime Minister Starmer described the event as a “deeply disturbing incident,” and King Charles III expressed his thoughts were with the victims.
The train was halted in Huntingdon after reports of the attack, and armed police were deployed to the scene. Anti-terrorism specialists initially assisted with the inquiry, though the focus quickly shifted to identifying the attacker and understanding the circumstances surrounding the event.
Government figures indicate a rise in knife violence since 2011. Prime Minister Starmer previously announced a goal to halve the number of knife crime cases within ten years, and the Interior Ministry reports nearly 60,000 knives have been confiscated or voluntarily surrendered. Carrying a knife in public carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison.
