Bath Township, OH – Nine people were injured in a shooting at an Airbnb rental in Bath Township overnight, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred at a large party reportedly attended by many young people.
Injuries ranged across both juveniles and adults, tho the extent of those injuries remains unclear as of Sunday morning. Akron Police and Fire Departments joined a large, multi-departmental response to the scene.
“This is a community – violence is not commonplace here,” said Bath Township Administrator Vito Sinopoli. “We do our very best to ensure the protection of our residents and business owners. When an incident like this occurs, we’re very upset about it. We’re going to do our very best to find out who’s responsible for this and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”
The shooting echoes a similar incident eight years prior, in 2016, when a 17-year-old was shot in the knee outside an Airbnb party in Bath Township.
Akron Mayor Shammas Malik released a statement on Facebook Sunday morning, saying, “Last night, our community experienced a terrible shooting…those who perpetrate violence anywhere in our community must be held accountable for their actions. This kind of deadly behavior cannot be normalized.” Malik also emphasized the need for community and parental involvement in youth safety, stating the City of Akron is “committed to continuing our work alongside parents, youth-serving non-profits and our broader community.”
The Bath Township Police department’s detective bureau is asking anyone with information about the shooting to call 330-666-3736.
