National Stroke Congress to Focus on Innovation adn Multidisciplinary Care in Catania
The Italian Society for the Study of Stroke (SISS) will host its XXIV National Congress in Catania, Italy, aiming to advance the field through discussion of accessible, personalized, and integrated medicine for stroke patients. The event, taking place at the Grand Hotel Baia Verde in Aci Castello, will bring together leading national and international experts.
The congress programme includes plenary sessions, thematic symposiums, presentations of original research, and specialized training workshops designed for young researchers and healthcare professionals dedicated to stroke care. Key topics will encompass prevention, lifestyle factors, acute phase treatments, rehabilitation strategies, the application of artificial intelligence, and the expanding role of telemedicine.
Gianluca Galvano, Director of the Diagnostic Imaging, Interventional Radiology and Neuroradiology Unit at ARNAS Garibaldi in Catania and President of the Congress, emphasized the critical need for collaboration. “Cerebral stroke remains a major healthcare challenge, demanding knowledge, innovation, and a strong multidisciplinary network,” he stated. “This congress will foster open dialog between neurologists, neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, cardiologists, and rehabilitation specialists, focusing on strengthening time-sensitive networks to ensure equitable access to treatment across Italy.” He also highlighted the importance of translating scientific findings into practical healthcare policies and supporting the development of the next generation of stroke specialists.
Rosario iannacchero,President of SISS,underscored the congress’s focus on the synergy between emergency neurologists and interventional neuroradiologists in acute stroke management.He also pointed to the significance of sessions dedicated to utilizing machine learning and digital systems to improve patient care, as well as a dedicated round table addressing primary and secondary prevention through lifestyle interventions – including physical activity, nutritional education, smoking cessation, and dietary quality.
