New World Progress Halted,But Servers Remain Online
Amazon Games announced today it will cease active development of its massively multiplayer online role-playing game,New World, effectively ending plans for new content updates.Despite this decision, the game’s servers will remain operational, and players can continue to access existing features.
The move signals a meaningful shift for the title, launched in September 2021, and impacts its player base. While ample additions like world bosses, weekly bonuses, and select seasonal events will continue, the game will no longer receive major content expansions. Amazon will, however, continue to provide updates focused on bug fixes and server maintenance. This decision arrives amid a wider restructuring at Amazon, which recently announced 14,000 layoffs-the largest reorganization in the company’s history.
Players seeking refunds for in-game currencies will not be accommodated. Amazon clarified that refund requests for the game itself are subject to the policies of the platform where it was originally purchased, meaning a purchase won’t be refunded simply due to the end of development.
