Bogor Regency Faces Rising HIV–AIDS Cases, Calls for Increased Support
CIAWI, Bogor Regency – The Bogor Institute for Strategic Studies (Lekas) Foundation is urging the Bogor Regency Government to bolster support for people living with HIV (PLHIV) as the region experiences a concerning rise in HIV-AIDS cases.
According to Lekas Foundation Chairman, Muksin Zaenal Abidin, the number of reported cases continues to climb. In 2024, Bogor Regency recorded 817 cases of HIV-AIDS. This trend has continued into 2025, with 389 new cases identified between January and May.
The increase is notably alarming due to the expanding demographic affected, now including pregnant women, toddlers, and individuals of productive age.The total number of cases from 2023 to October 27, 2025, has reached 1,206.
Muksin stressed the urgent need for increased local capacity to support PLHIV. Currently, only five trained companions are available to provide assistance, a number he described as significantly insufficient to meet the growing demand. He highlighted that current support systems heavily rely on funding from foreign donors.
Positive steps are anticipated, with the Bogor Regency Social Service reportedly planning training programs for PLHIV companions in 2025. While direct confirmation is pending, Muksin emphasized the importance of swiftly implementing this initiative.
Lekas Foundation is advocating for a extensive, cross-sectoral approach to HIV-AIDS management, aligning with the standards outlined in Minister of Home Affairs Regulation No. 100/2018 concerning Minimum Service Standards (SPM). This regulation designates HIV/AIDS services as a key performance indicator for regional governments.
The call for action follows a prior directive from the Regent of Bogor, instructing the regional government to begin allocating a dedicated budget for HIV-AIDS prevention and care.
