Police discovered the body of a ”beautiful adn talented” young woman in her bed a year after her death,an inquest heard. Chloe McDaid, 20, from Wallsend, North Tyneside, was found unresponsive at her home on February 12, 2023, but the circumstances surrounding her death remained unexplained until a second post-mortem examination.
The initial inquiry, conducted in February last year, found no obvious cause of death, leading to a lengthy wait for toxicology results and a second post-mortem. north Tyneside CoronerS Court was told the second examination revealed Chloe died as a result of sodium valproate toxicity – a medication prescribed for epilepsy and bipolar disorder. The hearing heard Chloe had not been taking the medication as prescribed.Area Coroner Karen Harland recorded a narrative conclusion,stating Chloe died consequently of sodium valproate toxicity,but could not conclude whether this was intentional.
Chloe’s family described her as a vibrant and creative individual who had recently completed a degree in performing arts. Her mother, Lisa McDaid, paid tribute to her daughter, saying: ”Chloe was a beautiful and talented girl with a bright future. She was loved by everyone who knew her and will be deeply missed.”
The inquest heard Chloe had struggled with her mental health and had previously sought help. She had been diagnosed with emotionally unstable personality disorder and had a history of self-harm. However, the court was told there was no evidence to suggest she was actively suicidal at the time of her death.
