Microsoft‘s AI Companion, Copilot, Officially Introduces ‘Mico‘ – It’s New Visual Avatar
Microsoft has given a name and face to the visual depiction of its AI companion, Copilot: Mico. The update, rolling out now in the U.S. and soon globally, marks the latest step in the tech giant’s effort to create an AI assistant focused on simplifying daily life and fostering connection.
The introduction of Mico, described as a “marshmallow,emoji-like face,” has immediately drawn comparisons to clippy,Microsoft’s famously helpful – and often intrusive – animated paperclip assistant from the 1990s. This move signals Microsoft’s intention to personalize the Copilot experience, aiming for a conversational and approachable interaction with users. according to Mustafa suleyman, head of Microsoft AI, the core ideology driving copilot’s development is that “technology should work in service of people.”
Copilot, with Mico as its visual persona, is designed to integrate into users’ existing workflows, connecting them to personal information, contacts, and frequently used tools. Microsoft’s blog post details that the AI will offer support for institution, health tracking, and collaborative dialogue, utilizing voice and visual learning capabilities.
“Copilot now connects you to yourself, to others, and to the tools you use every day,” wrote Suleyman in a recent note. “It’s there for you, helps you stay organized, and even supports your health. It brings people together in shared chats, helps you learn with voice and visuals, and shows up with warmth, personality and even an appearance: Mico.”
