LAKELAND, Fla. – florida Southern College senior guard Sydney Gomes has been nationally recognized by NCAA Division II analyst Wayne Cavadi as one of the “7 returning DII Women’s basketball Guards to watch for the 2025-26” season,as featured on the official NCAA website. Gomes is the sole representative from the sunshine State conference (SSC) to appear on the list, which highlights elite Division II players known for their scoring, leadership, and overall impact.
cavadi’s feature on the NCAA website spotlights seven returning guards whose experience and production position them as standouts entering the upcoming season. Gomes joins Minnesota Crookston’s Emma Miller, Grand Valley State’s Nicole Kamin, Ashland’s Lexi Howe, UC Colorado Springs’ Amyah Moore Allen, Minnesota State’s Natalie Bremer, and Central Missouri’s Reese Schaaf on the watch list.
Gomes elevated her game considerably last season, achieving career highs in points (15.8), rebounds (6.5), and assists (4.9) per game, while also leading Florida Southern with 44 steals. Notably, she led all of Division II in triple-doubles, recording two within a week – a 19-12-10 performance against Palm Beach Atlantic and an 11-10-10 line versus Mount Olive.
This recognition adds a national spotlight to Gomes’ season and the Moccasins’ program, reinforcing expectations for her leadership in FSC’s backcourt and showcasing Florida Southern as a rising program in Division II women’s basketball.
